Burkini Is a Feminist Issue Too
Translation by Elaine Grisé
par
Lise Bouvet et Yael Mellul
Since several weeks now, the controversy surrounding the burkini ignites the country to such an extent that we could believe this is the latest attack to have taken place. Witnesses of the swirl this matter induced, we observe that Islamists have collectively confined us in a perverted device that takes place in 4 ways.

The notion that it’s ok for disabled men to pay for sex is rooted in misogyny and ableism
par
Jess Martin, membre fondatrice d’EVA (Exploited Voices’ Allies)
When I read Emily Lazatin’s Huffington Post article about a new Vancouver-based prostitution agency catering toward disabled men, I felt compelled to respond from my perspective as a woman with two developmentally disabled brothers (one blood-related, one in-law) and roughly a decade of work experience in Special Education and respite care.

Egyptian doctor living in Zurich produces educational videos about health and sexuality for the Arab world
par
Mireille Vallette, journaliste indépendante
A doctor from Egypt, Alyaa Gad has been living in Europe for about 20 years. She now lives in Zurich. I found about her through an article in Poste de Veille. One of her hashtags, which translates as “Why we reject implementing sharia”, made the buzz at the end of 2014. But her main activity is much more original : health and sex education via a TV channel on YouTube, in Arab and English, focusing on the situation of women.

“Harm reduction” is not enough to appropriately analyze prostitution
par
Rhéa Jean, PH.D.
This has led certain social workers and activists calling for the legalization of prostitution to believe that this social issue also requires a harm reduction approach without giving too much thought to the nevertheless fundamental distinctions between prostitution and addictions to substances such as heroin or alcohol.

True Progressives Encourage Women’s Equality, Not Their Prostitution
par
Joy Smith, MP
As Bill C-36, the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act moves closer to becoming law, debate on how best to protect women and children from the dangers of prostitution ensues. Critics of our legislation have focused on the legitimacy of prostitution as an occupation and highlight the right of individual expression.

Abolitionists of the prostitution system : who we are, what we want !
par
Mouvement du Nid and many other feminist organizations
Judging by the passionate - and often outrageous - responses that spice up
the debate on prostitution and the possible criminalization of
johns/prostituters (who, after all, are a minority), it is reasonable to
think that the issue touches a sore spot of the social compact : that of the
disposition of women for male sexual pleasure. We abolitionists advocate a
bold and innovative idea : doing away with this symbol of male dominance over
women.
